Fees
STX does not charge a commission on winnings. The only trading fee is on taker orders.
Maker and taker orders
- Maker: your order rests on the order book and someone else matches it later. No fee.
- Taker: your order matches an order that is already on the book, so it fills straight away. You pay a fee.
A limit order at a price nobody is offering yet rests on the book, so when it fills it is a maker order. See Orders for the terms.
How much is the taker fee?
It depends on the price and your loyalty tier. It is largest at 50¢ and gets smaller towards 1¢ and 99¢. The most it can be per contract:
| Loyalty tier | Maximum taker fee per contract |
|---|---|
| Rookie | 2.5¢ |
| Veteran | 2¢ |
| All-Star | 1.5¢ |
| MVP | 1¢ |
| Hall of Fame | No fee |
For example, a Rookie who buys 100 contracts at 50¢ as a taker pays $50 for the contracts and a $2.50 fee. At 20¢ (or 80¢), the fee on 100 contracts is $1.60.
The formula and the tier factors are in the Fee Schedule.
When is the fee charged?
When a taker order fills. (Before June 22, 2026, fees were taken when a market settled instead.)
How can I pay less?
- Place limit orders that rest on the book: maker orders are free.
- Move up a loyalty tier: each tier has a lower taker fee, and Hall of Fame pays none. See How do I earn STX Points?.
